Last month saw the recognition of a relatively new annual celebratory day. October 30th is officially Create a Great Funeral Day. This day is important to us at Beachside. Our in-house catering team, Gourmet Catering, have long been known for helping the people of Nelson mark all of life’s significant events, including funerals and memorials. So, we think we know how to help you create the perfect send-off for your loved one.

Celebrating the life of somebody close to you is an emotional occasion, but it can still be an uplifting experience. As you can imagine, we’ve seen a few funerals and memorials in our time. So we thought we’d share three simple ways you can bring joy to a solemn occasion.
Colour:
Colours and emotions are closely linked.
The brighter and lighter the colour, the more happy and optimistic it will make you feel. So, one of the ways you can make a funeral or memorial a happy occasion is to add some uplifting colours. You might ask your guests not to wear customary black attire, or you may add some beautifully bright and non-traditional flowers. Or even use beautifully cheerful crockery!
Happy Memories:
Funerals and memorials are an excellent opportunity to share stories about your friend or relative. Not everybody will feel comfortable speaking, though. So create other ways people can participate. You could create a memory board and ask people to write down their favourite memory and pin it to the board. Or you could ask people to bring a special photo or something that reminds them of the person you’re celebrating to the memorial and place it in a treasure box.
